Cheney Submits One Harbor Project
On January 10, the City posted notice of the Cheney Development Agreement Application. The proposal will have significant impacts on the Old Ferry Landing Neighborhood, the Triangle Property across from the Tides Tavern, and the entire View Basin.
If approved, it will not only change the neighborhood character and significantly increase traffic downtown, but could become a new avenue for unrestricted development in Gig Harbor.

Proposal Would Add Rental Housing to Downtown Gig Harbor

The Ben B. Cheney Foundation is looking to buy and develop forested land at a busy intersection in Gig Harbor’s historic downtown to generate income for its charitable giving.
The foundation is under contract to buy five lots, including two treed parcels that intersect at Harborview and Soundview drives, and a third adjoining property at 7601 Soundview Drive.
It wants to build 35 to 40 housing units on the combined 2.27 acres — nearly four times what is allowed under current zoning. The units would be rentals, affording the foundation a steady income stream. read more...
