All expenditures at the City must be authorized by City Council, yet the purchase of the Masonic Temple next to City Park at Crescent Creek was executed by the Mayor without approval. This is yet another example of current conditions at City Hall and why it is time for a change in leadership....

The circumstances that led to the City’s July acquisition of the Masonic Lodge building and property didn’t make sense to me, and I began tracking down the events, and related documents leading to the purchase. Pulling everything together took a significant amount of time, and in the end, my conclusion was that the Masonic Lodge Property, purchased for $665,000 was done without approval of the City Council. I have shared my findings with the City Attorney as well as other Council members and they have all come to the same conclusion. read more...

The attached Council Memo describes the Mayor's unauthorized purchase of the Masonic Temple. The presence of soil contaminants has yet to be established, but the Mayor negotiated her own $14,000 discount as mitigation obligating the City to any future clean-up costs that exceed that amount. Council is being asked to ratify her actions that occurred on July 12, 2017, during Monday's meeting.
